Y-Carbon is coming to Bucks.
Congressman Patrick Murphy, D-8, Tuesday announced
the expansion of the King of Prussia-based
nanotechnology company to the Bridge Business Center
in Bristol Township.
.
The company received almost $149,938 as part of the
more than $18 million in funds from the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act to support smallbusiness
research, development and clean energy
technologies, officials said.
The company's newly appointed CEO, James Horan,
said Y-Carbon will occupy at least a couple of thousand
square feet of one of the center's main buildings for a
manufacturing and production facility.
"It's exciting," said Horan, former COO of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County in
Doylestown. "We've been getting calls from venture capitalists and potential business partners from all across Pennsylvania. We're going to continue to try to keep up with technology and get our products out there."
Horan said the company hopes to move in by February and will create at least 25 new jobs over the next 12 months - something Murphy said is key to stimulating the economy.
"While our economy continues to recover, this is a
critical step toward ensuring Bucks continues to lead
the nation in the clean technology jobs of the future,"
Murphy said.
Horan said Y-Carbon also plans to offer internships for students at Bucks County Community College and Delaware Valley College.
"This is a great opportunity to give students hands-on
experience right here in Bucks County," he said.
"Whether it's business or science, they can get acclimated to what they'll be doing in the future."
Y-Carbon's expansion is part of the effort by the
Keystone Redevelopment Group LLC to rehabilitate
several former Rohm & Haas research and
development buildings to lease 300,000 square feet of
laboratory space to companies in the life sciences fields. Keystone also plans to build and lease another 60,000 square feet of space on the 35-acre property off Route 413 on George Patterson Boulevard, officials said.
The Bridge Business Center is in a state-designated Keystone Innovation Zone and Enterprise Zone, which
offers special incentives for businesses to relocate there.
